Activity at Aldinga Beach

Busy times here, plus extremely hot weather, and no time for writing blogs.   My apologies.   The main focus, other than visiting people, has been the laying of tiles in Darren's side room, and the subsequent cleaning up and rearranging of furniture.

Patrick and Darren mixing the adhesive, in their identical elasticised boots, once  worn only by outback horseriders, but now a popular boot for the active and less active, alike.
Poppy resting on her rug, well out of the workers' way.
Donna sitting patiently at the front door.  My apologies, Donna, not the best photo I know.  Donna and I painted the skirting boards, which were laid out on the grass at the back.   We managed to paint blades of grass onto the boards, which gave them an interesting texture.
At the end of the first day all tiles were fixed to the concrete floor.   Next job, grout the floor.
On the second day, Patrick and his willing helpers, Walter, Darren and Scott worked on the floor.  They grouted it, and then put the skirting boards on.

While they were busy, Donna and I took Poppy for a walk on the Aldinga rock shelf, a marine reserve, which was partially exposed by the low tide.
Two pelicans resting on the shelf.
Poppy loved running through the shallow rock pools.
Hundreds of birds waited patiently for the tide to turn, in order to grab the best fish.
The view back towards the cliffs.  We felt as if we had walked quite a distance, but in fact the shelf was twice the distance out into the sea.   Tne total shelf is only exposed at rare times, during an extremely low tide.   At the end of the shelf there is a substantial drop to the sea bed.  A place loved by divers and sharks, all after the shoals of fish that live there.  No fishing though as the area on and around the shelf is a marine national park.   Not that the sharks know this, but then they are protected there too.
Meanwhile back at the house, the men continued to work hard, and before long the floor was finished, grey tiles and gleaming white skirting boards, with a faint hint of leaf blades.
The back door sliding door was taken off, and rehung, in order to stop the rain from leaking in around the edges,.    Darren repainted the skirting boards.   I oiled the wooden furniture, and then we reassembled the room as a dining/lounge/office room.

Walter relaxing on the couch. All the work now finally completed.
After many years Darren has finally achieved a light,  comfortable and well insulated room, out of a carport.
A big thank you to Patrick for leading the final task, the laying of the tiles.  Often in temperatures that exceeded 37 degrees.
