Life in Houten

We have returned from two lovely weeks in Houten, Netherlands.   A very busy two weeks, and no time for blog writing.   We visited a number of very new places, nothing compared to the amazing Hair Exhibition, but interesting all the same.

The next few days, in between getting my laptop into working order after a Windows 10 update, getting the garden into some sort of order,  plus a few lunch catchups with friends, I intend to publish blogs.   Before we are off again, travelling.

Aaron and Kylie's beautiful landscaped garden, with a woodland background.   Always a glorious spot, but on a sunny day, the garden and woods are stunning.   The deck chair looks inviting, I know, but in fact it is difficult to get into and impossible to get out of.   Looks the part though, I must say.
A closer look at the dappled woodland behind the house.
A sleepover in the caravan. Mia and Abi comfortably settled in the made up double bed at the front of the van.   Breakfast in bed and a chance for an electronic catchup.   In fact Mia is talking to Lucy in Adelaide, Australia, and wishing her a happy birthday.   Modern technology is fantastic.
Dinner in the van, eating Spagetti Bolognaise.   Popular with all children, I think.  On this night, three children slept over, Raphy at one end of the double bed, and Mia and Abi at the other end.   It all worked very well, and they slept soundly from 10.30 p.m. until 8 a.m.
More food.   Pancakes for lunch.  Delicious.
Three heads poking through the hole in the rocky desert area of the Rotterdam zoo.
I am on a sugar free month, together with the Palmer family.   However, I could not resist this apple cake in a cafe.   No self control.   But it was delicious.
We visited the glass factory in Leerdam where we spent a couple of hours watching the crafts people producing ornaments and vases, some of it using the technique of glass blowing.   Leerdam is regarded as the centre of the Dutch glass industry.   The first glass factory was founded in 1765.

There is also a glass museum in Leerdam, which Aaron and Kylie visited afterwards.
A street in Leerdam, very quiet on a Saturday afternoon.
Raphy spent a happy afternoon playing with other children at the adventure playground.   And I had a happy afternoon too, sitting under a tree, reading my book.  There is so much to do at the playground, including a very muddy water area.
It was great spending time with Aaron, Kylie, Mia, Abi and Raphy, made extra special as Abi and Raphy were still on school holidays during the first week we were there, plus there was a long weekend in the middle of our visit.
