Lake Balaton, Hungary

As I write this blog, I am wearing summer clothes, and no jumper.   And we sat outside for dinner, the first time on this trip.   I think a positive change has arrived, and we are headed for warmer weather, and little rain.   But lets not speak too soon.

After dressing in clean but damp clothes, we folded up the rest of the damp washing, and set off towards Lake Balaton.

We first drove through the centre of Budapest, which was quite exciting, but relatively easy.   No bumper to bumper traffic either.
 Then over the River Danube.
After two hours of easy driving on the motorway, we arrived at the campsite, Camping & Bungalows Zala, which is at the western end of the lake.    An enormous site, but very green, lots of shade, and very nice bungalows for those who prefer not to camp.

It was also sunny when we arrived, and a massive clean out of the van was our priority today.   I found the only washing machine on the site, and used it to wash all our wet and muddy clothes.    We opened the windows, and washed the van inside and outside, plus our bicycles which had been on the back of the van for the past two weeks.   And then when we were finished we sat down, and enjoyed a glass of wine.   Het was erg gezellig!
But what is this looming towards us.   Luckily the wind blew the storm clouds over us, and no rain.

This is what happens when you drive the van over a speed hump too fast.   Everything comes to the front of the cupboard.    Luckily the doors did not fly open, and we only broke one glass.

The 'beach' on the edge of the lake.   No swimming for me, I am just starting to warm up, so there is no appeal in diving into a cold lake.
A view across part of the camping ground.
Tomorrow we intend to cycle on bicycle paths to a village a bit further around the lake.   And the weather promises to be good too.
