The start of our central Europe trip - first stop the Netherlands.

It is raining, and has been raining, and will rain again tomorrow.    Rain, rain, rain!   Cold, cold, cold!   And we are sick of it.

But I know that the weather is no better in England, or in New Zealand or in Adelaide or in Kuala Lumpur.     Well it is not cold in KL but it is currently very wet.  However, there is currently sunny and warm weather in Prague but we are not there yet.    These weather applications on the phone are very useful for letting one know what lovely weather one is missing out on, elsewhere in the world.   This is especially useful when the weather is miserable in the current location.

We set off on our trip last Sunday, 12th May.   The weather in England was taking a turn for the worst, and it was windy and cold in Dover.   But luckily the P and O ferry put its stabilisers on and we had a very pleasant trip across the channel, in the dining room, where we enjoyed a lovely meal and a glass of red wine.   Walter is allowed to drink red wine again.   And he certainly enjoyed the glass of wine that he is holding.   Look how he is smiling in anticipation.  Six months is a long time.
We spent the first night in the aire in Calais, being buffeted by the rising wind.   At least we were not on a ferry.    I even had a dream that I was flying an aeroplane that was caught in turbulence and I knew I would have to take it beneath the clouds to escape it.   And then I woke up and realised the gale outside was rocking the motorhome.    It was of some relief to know that I was not, in fact, trying to fly an aeroplane.
It all looks very green in Houten, but also very wet.

We rode our bikes into Utrecht, and it was bitterly cold and very wet.    As we were expecting warm weather, and we intend to drive south, we had only summer clothes with us.    Consequently I needed to buy a pair of gloves and some socks, in order to keep warm while cycling.    Luckily we bought our ponchos which cover us as well as the bikes.   This is great as long as the wind does not blow.   I had a very confusing time standing on the side of the road, trying to see through my orange poncho, as it blew around my head, and trying to work out if it was safe to ride across the road.

The tower at The Dom still looks impressive, as it rises above the buildings.    Utrecht is a very picturesque city, even on a cold and rainy day.
Kylie looking very smart in her black and white raincoat.
The horses grazing on the lush green grass, and there is plenty of it too.
I love this avenue of silver birch trees with their beautiful patterned trunks.   In the gloom of a grey day, the white and black trunks really stand out.
Now if I look cold in this photograph then you are correct.
There is a word for all this miserable weather - Slecht Weer.   And it is too.
