I am writing this blog while sitting in our other caravan in the Netherlands. A grey but warm day. I think that the cloud is due to the warm moist air rising from the flat ground, and waterways. The humidity is very high. Hopefully the sun will break through soon.
It is with great pleasure that I look back on our two weeks in Camping Manjastre. As well as spending time with Emma, Jackson and Isabel we also met up with, and spent time with our many friends down there. People who come from both Britain and the Netherlands. It was great catching up with them, and having drinks together. So many lovely memories.
A visit to the beach at St Clair. This beach is usually packed with people in July and August. Quite deserted on the day we went there.
Our current favourite restaurant at St Clair. We had Sunday lunch there with Emma, Jackson and Isabel. After a very long and stressful train journey the day before, the three travellers look very relaxed in this photograph. The old boat they are standing in front of, looks very battered after the winter storms.
A very busy La Londe market. Emma having a good look at all the bargains for sale.
How to crowd into a small awning on a rainy, and quite chilly morning. We managed, just, as long as no one moved, and Emma held an umbrella up to deflect the rain from her side of the awning. Very cosy.
What better way to spend a wet afternoon, then to visit the shops at Grand Var.
An afternoon spent playing mini golf. We had lots of of fun, with many laughs at attempts to keep the golf ball on the green and heading towards the hole. Walter did manage a hole in one, through bouncing it over some rocks. I think I should have been awarded a prize for the most scores of six, the maximum amount of shots allowed for each attempt to get the ball from the start to the hole. Overall the winner was Emma.
The purple bougainvillea was out in full flower. This one was growing against the wall of the church in Bormes les Mimosa.
Walter posing in brilliant sunshine, with the backdrop of the picturesque village of Bormes behind him.
The balcony of the small pizza in Bormes village where we had the most delicious pizzas. An amazing display of white and highly perfumed jasmine creeper growing on the wall opposite the pizza restaurant.
Trying to chose the best pizzas. Such a lovely place to eat, excellent pizzas and a great view from the balcony.
Although it rained quite a bit this year, and was often overcast, we had enough sunshine to bask in, and make us feel happy. Plus plenty of gin for Emma, red wine for me, and non alcoholic beer for Walter. Happy hour!
We also received a visitor. A huge brown toad. There were plenty of toads around this year, especially in the amenities block. No one volunteered to kiss this toad, so no charming and handsome prince appeared in place of the toad. So could not prove the theory about toads in disguise.
Forgot to mention that Uno was played each night. We all crowded around a small table in the caravan. It was very cosy but also easy to peak into other people's hands. Now I am not sure if this was a good idea anyway, better be ignorant of the fact that you were likely to get a 'pick up 4' or a 'swap hands' card. Jackson kept a running score of all games, and worked out average scores and gauged equal scores for 'mini golf' and 'chase the lady game' (which is commonly known by ruder names). It helps to have a maths whizz in the group. The overall winner was Emma. How did she manage that. I must observe her winning tactics.
And as I finish this blog, the sun is appearing and the clouds are dispersing. Going to be a hot day.
Sadly no swimming pool
