Great Ocean Road

After a welcome cup of coffee, we reluctantly said goodbye to Rudolf and Connie at Point Lonsdale.    And then it was off to begin our trip along the Great Ocean Road, which begins in Torquay and ends in Warrnambool.

The Great Ocean Road is described as one of the most magnificant scenic coastal drives in the world.    Spectacular coastal scenery is how I would also describe it, with National Parks on one side of the road, and rugged coastline and white beaches on the other side of the road.    There are lovely little towns, and holiday homes interspersed between the National Parks.
 A photographer's paradise.
The Memorial Arch, dedicated to the 3000 returned servicemen from the First World War, who used picks, shovels and crowbars to build the road.   A great engineering challenge!
We stopped in Lorne, in order to sample the local fish and chips.   Delicious!
Two white, yellow crested cockatoos acting very friendly towards each other.

 More beautiful coastal scenes.
 A long way down!
Are we in Australia or NZ?   A pohutakawa (Christmas Flowering Tree) flowering beautifully in Apollo Bay.    We saw so  many of these trees along the coast in NZ in October and November and could only imagine them in flower.    And here they are!
Up early tomorrow.    And lots more to see yet!
