Camping Ekeberg, a beautiful spot, surround by woodland and playing fields. It is also within walking distance of the centre of Oslo, a reasonably long walk I might add, but achievable. I think we will be catching the bus somehow, and save our legs for walking around Oslo.
The sun is also shining, and it is reasonably warm. In fact this evening we do not have the heater on. Hurray.
The campsite is very busy, and we are surrounded by 'travellers' of the more permanent type. The ones around us are quite fair skinned and have blondish hair, but further over there are a groups of dark haired, dark skinned 'travellers'. They all seem very friendly and jovial. Together with the absolutely enormous caravans, there are an assortment of trade vans, and some very expensive cars. These 'travellers' are well off, I think. There are other campers here too of course. Quite an assortment of different numberplates.
One of the very large caravans, belonging to a 'traveller'.
The campsite is on a hill, and there are high hills surrounding Oslo. Decent hills. We found that the countryside became hillier as we approached Norway. We even passed a ski resort. It was all very beautiful countryside too, many lakes, woodland and a few farms. The road was single lane most of the way.A view of Oslo from the front of our caravan. Well I had to move a little in order to take it, due to a Dutch campervan being inconveniently parked in front of us.
According to the Lonely Planet, and Walter's online research, the campsites in Oslo (two) and Handangerfjord, where we are going to next, are not brilliant, a bit grubby, disorganised and not great facilities. Thank goodness we have a comfortable caravan, with a good shower, toilet and washing up facilities. There are no sites here, people park wherever they can find a spot. It seems to work though.
We stopped for coffee on the way here, at McDonalds of course. Walter looking very happy with his coffee. It was very good.
So tomorrow we hit Oslo, and we are determined not to compare it to Copenhagen and Stockholm. We must not see it as a poor relation of the other two cities.
Since leaving the UK this is the sixth country in less than three weeks. And the third Scandinavian country in less than two weeks. We love it.
