Adelaide, with its beautiful coastline that faces west, has the most beautiful sunsets. Clouds plus the setting sun.
Aldinga Beach. A long beach, covered in fine white sand, always looks beautiful, even when there are a hundred or so vehicles sitting on the sand.Darren lives a five minute drive away from the beach. I love to hop into our airconditioned car, in my swimsuit, drive to Aldinga Beach, park in the carpark so that I don't get sand in the car, dive into the water, swim for ten minutes, use the beach shower to wash all the salt water off, plus the sand on my feet, dry off, hop back into the airconditioned car and drive back to Darren's house. Perfect.
On the partichlar evening this photograph was taken, there was a storm gathering momentum. I drove back to Darren's house just in time.
The beach that is a five minute walk from Darren's house is part of a rocky shelf. At low tide the shelf is exposed and it is possible to walk though the small pools to the edge, where it drops away into very deep water. The sharks love to feed on the small fish in the deep water. The area is a marine life sanctuary. So no fishing is allowed.
It is not possible to swim on this beach as the water is too shallow, even when the tide is in.
Darren and Elvis, the dog, posing on the beach by the rocky shelf. The cliffs are geographically interesting. They are basically sandstone, covered in a fine layer of clay which has washed down the face from the cliff edge. There is often a fine layer of plant life covering the thin clay layer.
A long climb down to the beach and an even tougher climb back up. Good for fitness but hard work when the weather is hot.
Elvis loves chasing his tennis ball on the beach.
An assortment of sea birds on the edge of the rock shelf. No doubt they are waiting on their evening meal of fish.
Another beach. North Glenelg. Not far from Donna and Patrick's house. We are very fortunate that both Donna and Darren live on the coast.
North Glenelg is a lovely swimming area, which is not crowded and where dogs are allowed to swim without leads. Poppy is very keen on the water now, after being in Australia for eighteen months. She will swim out quite far as long as someone is with her.
Donna, Lucy and Poppy enjoying a swim.
A view towards Glenelg Beach.
A red sunset over the sea. A prediction that the next day will be hot.
A brilliant sunset, viewed from Darren's back garden as we sat sipping our red wine.
I love Adelaide beaches, clean and safe, with plenty of white sand and often deserted.
