Alsace

We left the Moselle region in extremely heavy rain, and then travelled across the hills to join the motorway just below Nancy, in heavy rain, and with very low clouds.    Sadly we had no view of the beautiful rolling hills.

We finally arrived in Riquewihr, in the Alsace, at about 2 p.m.  Luckily it had stopped raining.   And especially lucky for the car parked beside us, which I missed by a centimetre as I was reversing into the car park.   Walter was not impressed!   Last time we were here an elderly lady reversed into our van, which was then, our new van, and damaged the back right hand corner.    Parking is extremely tight in this town.
Riquewihr appears to be a very much a pretend little town, but in fact it is very real, although I think the townspeople capitalise on their town being so picturesque, and ensure that there are lots of souvenir shops and restaurants to cater for the hundreds of tourists that pass through each day..   A thriving industry.
So we walked up and down the street, taking photographs, and admiring the lovely houses.   But no money passed through our hands, sadly for the local people.
We stayed in a very pleasant camping ground in Eguisheim called Camping de Trois Chateaux.  Brian and Susanne spent their first night in the tent, in the rain of course, and declared that it is extremely comfortable.   It is a Quechua tent, which, when released out of its circular bag, is instantly up and in place.   Then it is a matter of putting the inner part into the tent, laying down the tent carpet, then the self inflatable mattresses, followed by the pseudo lambswool padded covers and finally the bedding.   And a cosy night is ensured.   However, any visits to the conveniences, have to be made, by walking to the ablution block.   Hopefully not in the rain.
Walter and Brian walked into Eguisheim, and declared that it is even prettier than Riquewihr, and without all the tourists too.
They even managed to take a photograph of a stork standing on its nest.    And it is real too.
As I write this second blog, whilst sitting in the comfort of our van, I can hear the heavy rain falling on the roof.   When will it ever stop?
