Marken, Volendam (Netherlands)

Before I finish the blogs on Holland, there is one more.     On Monday, Walter took Brian and Susanne for a trip in the motor home to Volendam and Marken, both places are on the north east side of Amsterdam, and on the edge of the inland sea.   Another beautiful day, and perfect for a tour in the motor home.

The first stop - Marken, which was once an island, but is now connected to the mainland by a causeway.   This has allowed tourists to view the traditional houses.   There are also many new houses being built, so more people can live there and enjoy the beautiful village.    Not so many people wear National costume now.

Brian and Susanne standing in front one of the picturesque houses, which are painted dark green, with white infill in the weather board joins.    Very traditional.
The town of Volendam, taken with a long distance telelense.    The water in between is Markermeer.
Marken, such a picturesque village, especially in bright sunshine.
In Marken, people are also getting ready for the European Cup.
A short rest in Marken.
A traditional flat bottomed boats in Marken.
Susanne tests out the oversized clogs, with the help of Brian.
The main street of Volendam, full of souvenir shops, and tourists.   And large coaches trying to find parking places.
A great day was had by all.
