We are now down at Camping Manjastre, in the south of France, and the sun is shining, the temperature is in the mid 20’s, and hardly a cloud
in the sky. Apparently they have had
their fair share of the rain down here too, and it is had not been the usual warm
May and June. But we have warmth now,
and sunshine, and the cold wet weather is but a dim memory.
But I must go back in time, and continue our travels in the
motor home, with Brian and Susanne. After we visited the Alsace we drove to
Paris via Colmar, Strasburg, Nancy,
Metz, Reims, even though Doris (Brian’s alternative to Ken) tried to direct us
to Paris, via Dijon. She was correct
of course, distance wise, but we would have none of it. So travelled a few extra kilometres, on our usual route.
And we also experienced a little diversion, plus a bit of drama,
on the motorway going past Reims, due to Walter leaving his man bag hanging on the
toilet door at a motor way stop before Reims, and realising that he did not
have it when he tried to pay the next toll.
And the toll ticket was also in the bag. After many apologies to the lady in the toll
booth, she let us through without a fine, and back we went to the previous
services. Luckily the bag had been
handed in to the cashier in the shop. There are
still honest people about. All this
did nothing for poor Walter’s blood pressure, of course.
As we were late, we got caught in heavy traffic on the Periferique. Bumper to bumper traffic! Then we had to follow complex diversions, with barriers and heavy police presence, in the Bois de Boulogne. We arrived
early evening at Camping Bois de Boulogne, an excellent camping ground and close to the centre of Paris.
Of course it was cold and showery. So we set up our guest room (the tent) for Brian and Susanne, ate a quick meal of eggs, ham and asparagus and collapsed into bed.
All ready to enjoy Paris, regardless of the weather.
