Sometimes the weather is rather gloomy in Southland. On this particular day, it reminded me of the greyness we experience in the UK. However it does not continue for days on end here, mostly because the wind blows the clouds away. Southland is known for its windy weather.
A car beach, just like Aldinga Beach. But there ends the similarities. On this day it was very overcast. However there were still some hardy people swimming, and the Surf Life Saving Club had their shelter up and flags out, ready to save people, who got themselves in difficulties.
A journey to Bluff, the harbour at the bottom of the island, ended up in seeing the area in quite a different light. A very mysterious place in the fog. Chilly too! And quite daunting. The rocks and sea did not look inviting.
The signpost.
The tea rooms. Is this NZ or a coastal village in England?
The symbolic chain which links the South Island to Stewart Island.
At last the sun came out, and it was time for an ice cream. A large Hokey Pokey (honey comb) ice cream. And each ice cream, usually two scoops, only costs the equivalent of 1.40 pounds.
And no, Walter did not eat both ice creams! He does look very happy though.
