Nga Tapuwae ote Mangau

On the way up to Cape Reinga we passed a building which looked just like a mosque. It is, however, a Maori church which combines Maori beliefs with Christianity. On the front there are two signs in Maori (Arepa - Alpha and Omeka - Omega). The new church has a following of about 50,000 people. The pastor who set the church up, went to Cape Reinga and felt the spirits pass him by so he felt compelled to start a new church. I am not sure how many other church buildings around Northland. We were very impressed with this building.
I am having a great success with the internet tonight so have uploaded more photos to the blog titled Cape Reinga.

  1. Hi Nola
I have great interest in learning more about this church. Do have a reference I can refer to?
