Freeling

Freeling! Now where is that, you may well ask?  And I did ask when it was suggested we go there to look at showhomes.

Freeling is on the rolling plains above Gawler and reasonably close to the Barossa Valley.  Grain growing country, with straight roads and not many trees.  And who would have thought of the idea of developing the little settlement of Freeling into a new housing development?   Well someone certainly has because there are now people living there in new houses and more land in the process of being developed. Amazing.

So on Sunday afternoon we set off in luxury and style in John's very large Holden Caprice, with Scott driving, which he did very well.

Walter, Scott, John and Andreena standing beside the Holden Caprice in dusty and desolate Freeling.
Taking a selfie in the bathroom mirror.
Walter enjoying the comfort of a couch as he surveyed the large room.
A large room and a small billard table,
Andreena checking out the laundry in a house.   I would love to have a laundry like this in the UK.
So much space.  And very large windows.  I love it.  Andreena looks quite dwarfed by the size of the room.
The entrance to a new suburb.   Are these poles a new type aerial perhaps? No, they represent wheat stalks. Oh my!
So large and so empty except for the guests, Andreena and Scott.
White, white and more white.  Sitting pretty on the only piece of colour, the couch.
Scott driving back, very competently.  Scott loved driving such a beautiful luxury car. A privilege.
A trip to Australia is not complete without a visit to showhomes. And we certainly enjoyed the trip to see these showhomes. They were, as always, large, spacious, well decorated, cool and set in landscaped gardens.

Our first home in Adelaide was based on a showhome.  But it was small and full of furniture and children.   We are now realistic about all the extras in the showhomes which cost heaps of money. And one then ends up with a much simpler version of the house on show.  But one can always dream.

But I am clear on one point. I could not live in Freeling.  No way.
