Adelaide revisited

Karen and Reece flew from Perth to spend the weekend with us.   So we set out to show them the sights of Adelaide city.    On a very hot day, but then they are used to it, living in Perth.   But we did get a little sunburnt.   No hats!

We first walked down Rundle Mall.   It was much quieter than before Christmas.   Therefore we could see more.    As we were with first time visitors to Adelaide, they alerted us to sights that we had not noticed before.   Adelaide also has some beautiful old buildings.

I love the scatter crossings here, with everyone going in all directions.    No dawdling though.    I had to take this photograph very quickly.
We all loved the ornamental pigs!
The Big Santa!   Where do they store him during the year, or do they change him into The Big Chicken (Easter), or The Big Aussie (Australia Day).   I am sure there are lots of 'big things' that he could become, just needs a little imagination.
 One of the beautiful arcades.
We walked along North Terrace, which has the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide University, University of South Australia, Government House, Parliament buildings, the Casino (in the old Railway Station) plus some grand looking modern hotels.    Beautiful buildings and very shady trees.

Walter and I spent time reminiscing as Aaron attended Adelaide University, and we, and Donna, went to the University of SA.   We went to the Underdale campus, which does not exist any more, and Donna went to the Magill campus.
Bonython Hall, which is part of Adelaide University.
Then onto the Festival Hall, Adelaide's version of the Sydney Opera House.    Sadly, this was not a good place to take visitors, as the building and the surrounds were very shabby and run down.   And there was no shade on the concrete area behind the building.    Very disappointing!
Even the view towards the Torrens was poor.   Come on Adelaide, this is not good enough, especially for a city that is proud of its cultural traditions.
Then on home for a barbeque dinner of Porterhouse steak and salads, followed by fresh mangoes with vanilla ice cream.
