Byron Bay

Here we are, in our teeny, weeny camper van, in a caravan park in Byron Bay.    Byron Bay is not the Gold Coast, with all its ultra modern developments.    The buildings here are low rise, often old, and gives one an impression of an old NSW town.    But it is meant to be one of Australia's best beach towns, popular with serious surfers, artists, people seeking alternative lifestyles, aged hippies and anyone else who wants something a little bit different.    At the moment it is also full of 'schoolies' i.e. high school students who have finally finished secondary school and are celebrating so the town currently has a high number of police present too.

 These trees have beautiful red flowers.   I must find out the name of the tree.    The tree was a distraction from looking at the amazing assortment of people on the streets.

 There is no 6 metre rule between camp sites at this camping ground.   The last time we camped so close to someone was in Italy - they do not have a 6 metre rule there either.  

We went for a walk after dinner (pizza).    Even in the dark the beach looked spectacular.     There was a pub on the beach front, full of 'schoolies' celebrating, with a huge police van in front as well as police on horse back.    Expecting trouble?    We did not stay around to find out.

Now it is off to bed in our teeny weeny camper van.     No toilet either!
